Things To Do In Quebec City!

Quebec City is absolutely breathtaking! I visited there almost a year ago, and I still can’t stop buzzing about it! From the kind people, to the delicious food, Quebec City has so much to offer! In this post, I will be talking about what I did in Quebec City when I wen there for a class trip, and what I recommend you to do if you ever visit the beautiful Quebec City! (Some of these pictures I did not take and were found online. The captions will specify whether I have taken the picture or not.)

Hotel

There are so many great hotels in Quebec City, but I only stayed in one, so I am only going to be talking about the one that I stayed in. The hotel that I stayed in was the Hotel Lindbergh. I stayed in a “Adapted Business Class Plus Room” which is option number 5 on the hotels website. The room had 2 double beds, and I shared the room with 3 other girls. The room was very simple, but very nice! The hotel staff was very nice, and I had a very nice time at the hotel! I have no complaints about this hotel!

This is a picture of the type of room that I stayed in at the Lindbergh. Below I have attached a link to the Hotel Lindbergh’s website

Restaurants

On my trip, I went to a total of 5 restaurants. They were all very good, but 3 of them stood out to me the most. Those 3 are Spag and Tini, Cosmos, and Erabliere Du Lac-Beauport. Spag and Tini’s is an amazing restaurant! I ate both breakfast and dinner buffets there, and they were both amazing! The staff was very considerate of food allergies, because my best friend is allergic to milk, and she had a very good experience at Spag and Tini! Next restaurant, Cosmos. Cosmos was a very cool restaurant to eat at! The food is great, but the restaurant itself is even greater! The restaurant is very bright and colourful, and the service was very good! I ate breakfast there, and they had a lot of good options for breakfast. However, they were not the best with food allergies, because after my friend ate the hash browns, they were unsure if they contained milk or not. She ended up being fine, but I would just be extra careful ordering there if you have a food allergy. The last restaurant that I’m going to be talking about is the Erabliere De Lac Beauport. If you want an authentic Acadian meal, you have to stop at this restaurant! I ate dinner there, and the experience was amazing! The food was great, and the entertainment was so much fun! They had everyone dancing, playing the spoons, and singing! It was so much fun! This restaurant was also very good with food allergies, so my friend had no problem! After our food, we got to participate in a taffy pull, which is where they pour hot maple syrup onto shaved ice, and it comes out like taffy. It tasted amazing! We also go the chance to go into the gift shop and buy stuff. If you are a fan of maple syrup, you will be in heaven in the gift shop!

Attractions

I did tons of fun things in Quebec City, but I’m just going to be talking about the things that were my favourites! First is the Albert Gilles Copper Museum. This museum showcases beautiful copper art, and was a very interactive museum. We even got to carve out a piece of copper! I carved a flower into mine, and I still have it! This was definitely a very cool experience! The next place is the Sainte Anne Basilica. This church is massive, and beautiful. It is the most beautiful church I have ever seen! I attended a mass in French, which was interesting, because I couldn’t really follow along. The church was a very cool thing to see! The next place is the Canyon St Anne. This was a very big canyon with waterfalls, bridges, and very beautiful sights! This activity involved a lot of walking, but was so worth it for the beautiful sights! The next place is the Rue St. Jean strip. The Rue St. Jean is a big strip of shops in the older part of Quebec City, and it is amazing! There are so many tourist shops, walking tours, and so much history! It also includes the Notre Dame Basilica, which is a very beautiful church. A scene from the movie “Catch Me If You Can” with Tom Hanks and Leonardo Dicaprio starred in! The Rue St. Jean is definitely something you should experience!

As you can see, I had an amazing time in Quebec City! I made lots of great memories, and I really hope that I can go back one day!

What To Do In The South Bruce Peninsula! (Sauble Beach, Southampton and Port Elgin)

The South Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada is a place that I have been visiting since the year I was born. Every summer, me and my family stay at a friends cottage for a week in Port Elgin, and throughout the week, we explore our old and new favourite places in the South Bruce Peninsula! The South Bruce Peninsula is a peninsula where Southampton, Sauble Beach and Port Elgin are located. In this entry, I will be discussing some of the awesome things that you can do in all 3 of these beautiful places! Just a little disclaimer, all of the pictures were found online, and were not taken by me. The only picture that I took is the last one of the Gobbles Grove sunrise.

Southampton

Southampton is a beautiful place full of life and things to do! Southampton has a beautiful beach, which is perfect for going for a swim, or walking the boardwalk! One shop that me and my family visit every time we visit Southampton is the Southampton Olive Oil Company. The Southampton Olive Oil Company is a beautiful little shop, full of amazing olive oils and vinegars! There are what seems like endless an amount of tasty oils and vinegars, that you can taste in store! My personal favourite olive oil that they sell is the butter oil, which is perfect for popcorn! One place that is a new favourite is the Outlaw Brew Company. Outlaw Brew Company is a brewery and restaurant where you can purchase craft beers made in Southampton. Now, i’m only 15, so I haven’t ever tasted the beers, but my dad has, and he was very pleased with the quality and the taste! We did not get to try the food on our last trip, but we will definitely make it a priority this year!

Sauble Beach

Sauble Beach has something for everyone! Sauble Beach is one place that me and my family visit every year! It is full of beach themed shops, restaurants, and of course a beach and an awesome boardwalk! One shop that my family and I visit every year is The Patch. The Patch is a store that sells jewellery, clothing and accessories. They mainly specialize in jewellery, which is all unique and very beautiful! Me and my sister have been collecting bracelets from The Patch for years now, and is still one of our favourite things to do in Sauble Beach. One place that is one of my personal favourites is the Ascent Aerial Park. The Ascent Aerial Park is a big obstacle course that tests strength and focus. There are 3 levels of challenges that you can do, all while your strapped to a big rope, in the air. The first 2 levels are relatively easy, but the 3rd level is really hard! Even if you do only one level, you get an amazing workout!

Above is a picture of the Sauble Beach sign that welcomes you when you enter beautiful Sauble Beach!

Port Elgin

Port Elgin is a place that is very special to me. Like I mentioned earlier, I have been going to Port Elgin since the year I was born. Port Elgin is a peaceful, but lively community. There is so much to do! First of all, the beach on Gobbles Grove is just amazing. When my family and I go, we stay in a cottage right across from Gobbles Grove beach, so I know that beach pretty well! There is a little island near Gobbles Grove, and that island is called Chantry Island. Chantry Island is home to a beautiful lighthouse, which you can actually book a tour to see! I’ve personally never done it, but I’ve seen the lighthouse from inside a boat when my family and I sailed past it. One of our family traditions is that on the last night of our trip, we go to our favourite restaurant in Port Elgin, which is the Lord Elgin. The Lord Elgin specializes in seafood and makes the best fish and chips you will ever taste! Take my word for it! If you are around Port Elgin in the fall time, make sure to visit Pumpkin Fest. The Port Elgin Pumpkin Fest is a big festival in Port Elgin, where there is a farmers market and a contest for the biggest pumpkin at the festival. My family and I have been once, in 2015, and it was so much fun! I really hope that i can go again sometime in the future!

Above is a picture of the breath taking sunrise on Gobbles Grove Beach in Port Elgin. I woke up at 6 am one day on our last vacation to get a good shot of the sunrise, and I think it turned out pretty good!

So there are just a few things to do in Southampton, Sauble Beach, and Port Elgin! If you would like more information on any of these places, feel free to click the links that I have provided. Thanks for reading about the South Bruce Penninsula, and I hope that one day you can visit, and have the time of your life!

The Best Places to Travel as a Young Adult.

Travelling is timeless. You can travel all of your life if you wanted to, and sometimes can even make a career out of it. But in my opinion, the best time to travel the world is when you are a young adult. I would say anywhere from the age of 18, and all the way into your 20’s. This is the best time because you are young, so you can take a lot of adrenaline, so you can do things like bungee jumping and skydiving. You also have more endurance, so you can do things like long walking tours and big hikes. Also because your young, and you wan tot enjoy living life to the fullest and not in a cubicle working 9 to 5. That might be what you like to do, but personally, I feel like everyone has to experience some adventure at some point. Here is a list of the best trips to take, places to visit, and things to do to make the most out of your travels when you are a young adult! ( Just as a little disclaimer, I have never been to any of the destinations that I am talking about, and I have not gone on most of the trips listed below. These are all from what friend, family, and the internet have told me about these places. I hope that someday I get to experience all of these places and get to do all of these types of trips!)

1- Types of trips to take:

  • Solo travel. It’s just you against the world. You plan your trip from the minute you wake up to the minute you fall asleep.
  • Travel with friends. Travelling with friends can be so much fun. You get to make great memories, and the cost is cheaper because it is split between multiple people. The more people, the cheaper the trip.
  • Study Abroad. Studying abroad sounds like such a great experience, because you get to study something that you are passionate about, and you get to travel with a bunch of people who share the same interest as you!
  • Volunteer Abroad. This is something that i feel isn’t talked about enough. Volunteering abroad is very cheap, and you get a more local look of traveling because you basically live there for however many days, so you really get to experience that place to the fullest.
  • Road trip. Road trips, especially ones with friends can be super fun. I would recommend doing somewhere in North America. Because you can stay just in either Canada or the U.S.A, or do both. Just get a bunch of friends together, a car or van, and just drive and see what cool places you can experience.
  • Island Hopping. Island hopping sounds so much fun! You live on a boat, and just visit beautiful islands. Some islands may even be inhabited, so you can get the whole island to yourself!
  • The Classic Europe Trip. I feel like Europe is on place that everyone should experience. There are endless places to go and explore, and so much history and culture to soak up and enjoy!

2- Where to go? The world is full of endless places to visit, so that makes it really hard to choose one place to go. Here is a list of great places, full of culture and people, that you should check off your bucket list!

  • Greece. Greece is so beautiful, and is the place that I am planning to travel to when I am 18. In Greece you can visit ancient ruins, get on a boat and go island hopping, or just sit in a cute cafe and drink some coffee.
Above is a picture of beautiful Santorini, Greece.
  • Portugal. Portugal is one place that I really want to check off my bucket list. Portugal is full of great food (fish and butter tart’s to be exact) and amazing culture. Make sure to visit Portugal’s capitol Lisbon, to experience amazing history, and great people.
Above is a picture of Portugal’s breathtaking capital, Lisbon.
  • Thailand is full of travelers. Thailand is one of the places that is on the cheaper side, and you can stay at a great accommodation, eat great food, and do some great things, all for super cheap. The culture is very interesting, and sounds amazing to experience.
Above is one of the beautiful beaches in Phuket, Thailand
  • Ireland. Like Thailand, Ireland is full of travelers, so you can expect to make new friends during your travels. Ireland is a great place to visit, especially if it’s one of your first trips, because everyone speaks English, but the culture is still so amazing and something that you can only get in Ireland. You can totally catch me in Ireland in a couple of years wandering the streets and immersing myself in the culture.
Above is a picture of one of the many pubs you will find in Ireland’s bustling capital Dublin.
  • New Zealand. Like Ireland, everyone in New Zealand speaks English, which is great for a first time traveler. The culture is amazing, there’s amazing beaches, and everyone says that the locals are super nice! I can’t wait to go to New Zealand one day!

As you can see, all of these places are breathtaking, and I hope to visit all of these one day!

How Your Household Waste is Affecting Your Travel.

Think about what you do in a day. You brush your teeth, get coffee in either a plastic cup for iced coffee or a paper cup for hot coffee, eat a lunch with plastic bags and plastic water bottles, and you may also go grocery shopping later and use plastic bags. All of those things, that are in your daily or weekly routine, are slowly killing our planet, and killing the beautiful places in our wonderful Earth. As a generation, I feel like we have a responsibility to take care of our planet so that the next generation of people to come into this world have somewhat of a healthy planet to live off of. Did you know, that the next generation of people might not get to experience a plastic free beach? To me, that is so scary. We have to do our part to save these beautiful places on our Earth, and these beautiful travel destinations, so that the next generation can enjoy it just as we did. This applies to travelling because, just imagine it, you have always wanted to go to a certain place that has immense culture and beautiful oceans. Imagine in like 10 years visiting that place, and finding plastic and waste in the water and on the sand. To the new generation of people that will seem normal. This is not right, and we need to do our part to stop it. It all starts with you. You, just one person, can make a huge difference to our planet.

Some ways to decrease how much waste that you produce is to:

  • Switch to a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one
  • Switch from plastic straws to glass, metal, or bamboo straws
  • Switch to re-usable grocery bags made out of cloth
  • Wash your recycling. For example, soup cans and yogurt containers. Did you know that something (i.e. jar, can, cup) with even a little bit of food on it an not be recycled? It contaminates the rest of the recycling and will be thrown into the garbage.

Just by doing these 4 things, you are reducing the amount of waste and single use plastics that you are using, and all in all, saving our planet and all of the beautiful places in it.

Above I have attached a video that talks about how to cut down on single use plastic, how to cut down on plastic while travelling, and how you could even live completely plastic-free. This travel influencer, photographer and videographer, Sorelle Amore, has been living the plastic free lifestyle for 10 months now (since this video has been published she went from being plastic free for 6 months to 10 months, and still continues to live plastic free). Sorelle really shows how one person can make a difference, and talks about the ripple affect of how it starts with one person, and then will keep expanding. I hope that if you are ever thinking of travelling in the future that you look for waste and single use plastic alternatives to help keep these beautiful travel destinations beautiful for everyone in the future to enjoy!

Why Traveling is Important for People in this day and age.

In this generation, people are work obsessed, busy all the time, and some people don’t know what they want to do for the rest of their life. I feel like all that people care about now is work, money, and how many Instagram followers they have. All of those things may seem important, because of our society nowadays, but in reality they are not. Take money for example. Of course you need money to make a living, pay rent, whatever. But the amount of money that you have doesn’t make you any better than the next person who may have no money. That is why money can easily get to someones head, just like social media. The amount of likes, re-tweets and followers you have does not define you as a person, but in this society, when you lose followers on Instagram, people think it is the end of the world, and start to get anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, all because of some stupid Instagram followers.

Anyways, I’m getting off topic. I feel like an excellent way to really realize how important your life is, and to cleanse your mind, is to travel. You may think to yourself, why would travelling be the solution to my problems? Well, travelling gives you an opportunity to experience other cultures and to see how other people live their life. It is so eye opening to experience, and it helps you to re-evaluate what is really important to you in life. Some benefits to travel are: you get to meet new people, who you may make valuable relationships with, you can explore our beautiful planet in all of it’s glory, and you can also learn a lot from travelling. Anywhere from learning a new language, learning the different traditions and festivals that take place all around the world. You can learn a lot from just leaving your house and going to somewhere you have never been to. You dont even have to leave your country if you don’t want to, just go to a different state or province and explore there.

Above i have attached an article about 17 Reasons Why Around the World Travel is Good For You. This is what inspired me to write this blog post. i hope that you really take some time to think about the things that i have said in this post, and the things in the article. I hope that travelling interests you, and that you can experience the wonders of travel.
